Professore Ordinario

Biografia

Giuseppe De Pietro è Professore Ordinario di Informatica e Direttore del Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie dell'Informazione presso l'Università Telematica Pegaso. È Ricercatore Associato presso l'Istituto per il Calcolo e le Reti ad Alte Prestazioni – CNR. In precedenza, è stato Professore Aggiunto presso il College of Science and Technology della Temple University di Philadelphia e la Facoltà di Ingegneria dell'Università di Napoli Federico II.

Da settembre 2014 a marzo 2024, ha ricoperto il ruolo di Direttore dell'Istituto per il Calcolo e le Reti ad Alte Prestazioni presso il CNR. È stato  consulente per il Ministero per le Riforme e le Innovazioni nella Pubblica Amministrazione, definendo strategie per la diffusione delle nuove tecnologie dell'informazione e della comunicazione nell'e-government. Inoltre, ha svolto il ruolo di esperto per il Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico, specializzandosi nella ricerca e sviluppo precompetitiva per la valutazione di progetti di innovazione tecnologica in aree come l'architettura e i sistemi di elaborazione, l'automazione d'ufficio, le reti informatiche e l'ingegneria del software. È stato anche membro della commissione bilaterale DigitPA – CNR per l'innovazione tecnologica e i processi di e-government. È stato membro italiano del European Reflection Group sull'e-Infrastructure e un esperto nominato dal Ministero della Ricerca italiano per pianificare le reti di ricerca europee.

Ricopre il ruolo di Presidente del Consiglio di Amministrazione della fondazione Future Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR), di eHealthNet Scarl e di PM4Care Scarl. È anche membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione del Distretto Tecnologico Regionale Databenc Scarl.

La sua ricerca si concentra principalmente sull'intelligenza artificiale, in particolare sul machine learning, deep learning e natural language processing (NLP). Questi ambiti trovano applicazione nei sistemi di supporto decisionale nel campo medico e nella realtà virtuale e aumentata. Ha partecipato attivamente a numerosi progetti europei e nazionali, con numerose collaborazioni industriali. Coordina i progetti europei SMART BEAR e AI4HEALTHSEC nell'ambito di Horizon 2020. Ha pubblicato oltre 250 articoli scientifici in riviste e conferenze internazionali. Inoltre, è Associate Editor per Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence.
